Normal Jack would totally be all over games like Plague, Inc/Pandemic but XI!Jack has some problems with his lingering genocidal musings. Mainly, that they scare the crap out of him. So then I wrote this.

“Jack, what are you doing?”

Jack was hunched over his iPod, which was making some interesting noises. Mostly coughing, sneezing, and creepy music. Jack didn’t look up.

“Killing people.”

“What?”

Jack held the iPod up. “It’s a game. You’re a deadly, contagious disease, and you have to kill all the people in the world.”

Hajime just stared at him. “Uh… huh…”

“It’s fun,” Jack huffed, hunching back over the iPod again.

“It sounds morbid.”

“Morbid things can be fun!”

“Alright, alright.” Hajime turned his attention back to his textbook. “Just turn the volume down, alright?”

“Oh come on, it’s not that bad!”

Just then, a little girl started singing “Ring Around the Rosy” in a creepy, ominous tone, and Jack almost dropped the iPod completely, jumping in his seat.

“That game is going to give you nightmares,” observed Hajime, bemused.

“No! I’m not scared of it.” But he did turn the volume down. “I’m going to win! Look! I’m down to half the world’s population!”

“I’m glad you’re able to cause so much destruction, just do it quietly.”

Jack didn’t answer that other than to wave his friend off, so Hajime shook his head and continued studying. About a half hour passed, and then Jack set the game down.

“What happened? Did you win?”

“Yeah.” Jack’s voice was flat, and not very triumphant. “The last person died.”

“Shouldn’t you be happier about that?”

Jack leaned back against the couch cushions, looking perplexed. “I guess.”

He was silent for a bit, and Hajime had decided to go back to reading when he spoke up again.

“I just kept thinking they’d figure out a cure eventually, you know?”

“Jack.” Hajime looked at him seriously. “They’re not real.”

“I know.” He still looked sullen, though.

Hajime reached over and grabbed the iPod, ignoring Jack’s protests. In a second, the game was being deleted.

“Hey! What’d you do that for?”

“I’m deleting this before you upset yourself, because I can already tell that’s where this is headed.”

Jack pouted, giving him an angry look as he snatched his iPod back. “I wasn’t going to.” Hajime was ignoring him, so he added an irate, “Mom.”

“Insult me all you want, I did it for your own good.”

“Hmph.” Jack threw himself back moodily on the couch and didn’t say anything for several minutes. But eventually, he gave in. “You’re probably right.”

“I know I am,” Hajime replied smugly, not even looking up from his book.

Jack threw a pillow at his head.
